OfferForBusiness Glossary
Short definitions of the words you need before you send a price: scope, exclusions, assumptions, revisions, packages and the risks hiding in each of them.
Scope of work
Scope of work is the written boundary of a service, stating the tasks, outputs, responsibilities and limits included in the quoted price.
Exclusions in an offer
Exclusions in an offer are tasks, costs or outputs that the proposed service does not include, stated clearly before the client decides.
Revision policy
Revision policy is the offer section that sets how many feedback rounds are included, what each round covers and when extra work is quoted.
Pricing assumptions
Pricing assumptions are the facts about scope, timing, access and client input that your quoted price depends on, and that change the price when they turn out false.
Scope creep
Scope creep is the gradual addition of tasks, versions or requirements after agreement, without a matching update to price, time or workload.
Service packages
Service packages are predefined versions of a service that group different scope, support or delivery choices under clearly separated prices.
Price range
Price range is an early estimate between a lower and upper price, used when key scope details are still unknown or depend on the client's answers.
Client brief
Client brief is the collected information about the client's goal, audience, constraints, inputs and approval process used to shape an offer.
Fixed price quote
Fixed price quote is a stated total price for a defined scope and set of assumptions, rather than a charge based on the hours eventually worked.
Hourly rate
Hourly rate is the price charged for one unit of working time, with the final service total based on the time recorded under agreed rules.
Project based pricing
Project based pricing sets one price for a defined body of work and expected result, based on the project rather than each hour spent.
Deliverable
Deliverable is a specific item, file, service output or completed activity that the client can expect to receive from the agreed work.
Milestone
Milestone is a defined point in a project when a named piece of work is finished, sent for review or approved, before the next stage of the service begins.
Delivery timeline
Delivery timeline is the planned sequence of work, reviews and handoffs, including target dates and dependencies that can affect completion.
Work acceptance
Work acceptance is the agreed process for checking a deliverable against stated criteria and confirming that the planned work is complete.
Out of scope work
Out of scope work is any requested task, output or condition that falls outside the accepted service boundary and its stated assumptions.
Change request
Change request is a written proposal to alter agreed scope, timing, outputs or assumptions, priced and accepted by both sides before the altered work begins.
Deposit
Deposit is the part of the agreed service price paid before work starts, used to confirm a reserved project slot and to cover early costs on your side.
Retainer
Retainer is a recurring service arrangement that reserves agreed access, capacity or defined work for a client during each stated period.
Commercial offer
Commercial offer is a clear presentation of a proposed service, its scope, price, timing, assumptions and next step for a specific client.
